Home Considerations
- Urban guests will likely be used to more independence and distance from extended family than their rural counterparts
- Traditionally men led the household — this persists more in rural and older families than in urban, younger ones
- Sunday dinner with grandparents is a deeply held routine — your guest may want to call or video-chat home on Sundays
- Firm handshake with every person in the room — women first, then men, then children. Both hands out of pockets, direct eye contact
- If you briefly leave the room, offer your guest something to read — leaving them sitting idle is considered poor hosting
- Stand up when an elder or senior person enters the room
- Direct your guest to their seat — guests remain standing until shown where to sit
